Dr. Scott Smith's story
"Why I use spinal decompression"
25 years ago, I was a weight lifter, thinking if I looked good, I could get all the chicks! Well, I was squatting 560 lbs and immediately, I started getting back and leg pain. It didnâ?Tt seem to be a big deal. A few days later, it felt better. I then went kayaking down some rapids. The next day the back pain was severe and radiated to my leg and foot. Again, 3 days later, the pain was all but gone. I then went for a 5 mile run after doing 150 sit-ups. Half way thru my run, I collapsed with unbearable back and leg pain. 2 months later I had back surgery.
For the next 23 years my low back pain limited my activity and also my ability to practice. If I got too active, I would then irritate my back to about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. I had to limit skiing and a lot of the things that I loved to do.
10 years ago, I ruptured 3 discs in my neck when I fell forward on the edge of a desk, hyper-extending my head backwards. This injury was so bad that not only did I have severe pain in my arm, but I lost some hand and arm function. The surgeon wanted to fuse 4 vertebrae together. After doing injections, my neck began to feel better, but there was always a nagging neck pain with an occasional migraine.
About 3 years ago, I was skiing (which I shouldnâ?Tt have) and hurt my mid back from an intense fall. My mid back pain was about a 7.
About 2 years ago I was driving when I was hit from the side. This re-irritated my neck and arm pain, giving me a pain level of 8-9.
I was hearing more and more about decompression and I thoughtâ?¦ â?oif I could just be pulled apartâ?â?¦ so I bought a spinal decompression machine.
My personal experience with decompression was quite dramatic: Within 3 sessions, my severe mid back pain was gone. After 6 weeks, my low back pain was gone. After a few months, my neck has reached about 80% improvement. I am able to enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and many other activities. As you can tell, I live for being active and having fun! Spinal decompression has done much to give me my life back after so many years!
Since I am a fellow sufferer of neck, mid, and low back disc pain, I feel it gives me an inside track on other peoples suffering...I have been there! I know what might help because I know what helped me. I found out from personal experience what works and what doesnâ?Tt.
It is important to appreciate the importance of personal experience. Most doctors or chiropractors treat these problems without really understanding your pain, so they can only begin to understand the frustration and desperation.
I have done my best to keep the cost of decompression as reasonable as possible, especially compared to some. This treatment really does work for most, and yes, I have lost a few to surgery, but the lions share of my patients find the same relief that I have found.
