Concrete Surfaces Care Instructions
Your new concrete countertops are very low maintenance in comparison to other surfaces including natural stones. Below are a few suggestions to keep your surfaces looking great for years to come.
Heat:
The concrete itself is highly resistant to heat. However the sealers used to protect the surface are not and can be scorched. Always use a heating pad or other protector with extremely hot surfaces.
In the case of scorching the sealer can be stripped and reapplied. Contact your Jack Gordon Design representative for more information.
Stains:
The surface of your countertop is as or less porous than other natural stones surfaces, because of this the counter can stain. Highly acidic foods such as salsa, coffee, kool-aid, and mustard can stain the counters almost immediately. Less acidic foods are less likely to stain. It is a good practice to wipe up spills immediately. Use gentle cleaners, like 409 or simple green to help wipe up spills. For tougher stains on lighter colored concrete bleach can be used in small amounts to remove the stains.
Waxing:
When your countertops were installed they were coated with either a food grade bee's wax or a pure carnauba wax (like Mother's brand). Many of our clients choose to re-wax once every 3-6 months. We recommend this practice which keeps the counter's surface looking great. You can choose to wax your counters as often as you wish, it's up to you.
Cleaning:
Gentle cleaners like 409, Simple Green or even Windex can be used to clean your countertops. Frequent use of harsher cleaners is not recommended because these chemicals can strip away the sealers over time.
Sealing:
Having your counters re-sealed every few years can be a great way to revitalize your surfaces even after the harshest of treatment. Contact your Jack Gordon Design representative when considering re-sealing your counters.
We currently serve Northern Utah to Las Vegas.
