What are my Rates?
This should be pretty simple, I charge $40.00 per hour. However in cases of extensive malware removal, where the charge would be exorbitant if charged by the hour, I will adjust the fee to make it more reasonable.
I will charge a $40.00 minimum fee if I just come and look at your computer but you choose not to purchase any other service.
Will I Work Outside the Greater Columbia Area?
Absolutely, I would say within 30 or so miles outside of Columbia, Missouri. This includes Ashland, Centralia, Boonville, Moberly, and Kingdom City. In these cases I would charge $1.00 per odometer mile outside Columbia.
Who is CompuMedics?
I started CompuMedics PC Repair Service in Columbia, MO because I read online about the shoddy workmanship of Best Buys Geek Squad, I see their failing reviews, and I believe they are giving the good computer repair technicians a bad reputation. Not all computer repair technicians are alike, some may have started in other industries, and with the prodding of family and friends, went on to be a computer repairman. Others probably started fixing computers for a hobby, or in my case, I would mess up something on my Fathers very expensive x386, and I would have to fix it before he came home from work; I am a firm believer in learning under pressure.
How Bad Can it Be?
You know? I am always surprised when I arrive at a clients house, I never know what I am walking into or if I will be able to help the client. Sometimes it is as simple as putting a disk into the cd-rom drive and installing some drivers. Other times it is a seven hour ordeal, with a computer so infested with virus and malware that it has ceased to function. You can't get into the control panel, you can't log into the computer, or your user password has been changed. Sometimes you won't even realize that you have an infection until your bank information has been stolen, your credit cards, your Facebook user name, and your email account have all been hijacked. This is a terrible time to live in if you are a PC user, but what are the alternatives?
What Are The Alternatives?
You can use an Apple computer, if you like having your hand held all the time, and you don't like playing some of the better games.
You can use Linux, Ubuntu, or some of the GPL alternatives, I have, and to be honest I wasn't a fan of the drivers and the interface.
Maybe it is me but I have grown up around Windows, all the way back to DOS, and Windows 3.1, I love Windows. I know it crashes and it is buggy when they release a new version, "Hello, Windows Vista;" I still will not leave Microsoft Windows.
Unfortunately, this makes my experience necessary, hackers and programmers of all kinds see Windows as a giant target, and they send their malware your way.
My Promise to You:
As my client, I will treat you with respect, I will be professional, and if I am unable to help you for whatever reason, I will tell you, I will not use your money to throw parts at a problem. I will not charge you more than you think my service is worth, and I will do my absolute best to uphold the values that have gotten me through life, "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you."
