Q: Can you replace my auto glass if it is raining?
A: In most cases, yes. We provide tents to our installers that will cover the work area for most vehicles and keep the work area dry.
Q: What is OEM glass?
A: OEM glass is the glass that was manufactured by a company that was contracted to make the glass for a vehicle manufacturer. We purchase most of our glass from PPG, one of the leaders in the industry and OEM provider for several car manufacturers. When you call shops for pricing, you are not "comparing apples to apples" as they say, if a particular shop is using cheap aftermarket glass and materials.
Q: Do you replace more than just windshields?
A: Yes. We replace door-glasses, vent gass, quarter glass and back-glasses, basically all the glass in your vehicle.
Q: How important is a properly installed windshield in the event of an accident?
A: This is a very important question, since it means your protection and safety could be compromised. The passenger side airbag deploys up and off of the windshield with extreme pressure and then to the passenger. If inferior or sub-standard urethanes are used with lengthy cure times, and you then drive your vehicle before the urethane is cured, the windshield would be ejected out of the vehicle, rendering the passenger side airbag useless. An even worse case scenario is in the the event of a rollover. The windshield would not be retained in the vehicle, causing the roof to collapse resulting in injury or death! It is very important to ask the installer or the shop what the "safe drive away time" is, especially when some shops use cheaper urethanes with longer drive times, cross their fingers and then send you on your way. (THIS HAS HAPPENED)
Q: The last time I had my windshield replaced I was told not to operate my vehicle for 24 hrs, why?
A: That is what is called SDAT or "safe drive-away time" and is the time it takes for the urethane adhesive used on your installation to cure to the point where the windshield would retain the structural integrity required to pass the barrier crash test and roof crush test administered by the "Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). Here at Bauers Auto Glass, we utilize Sika brand urethanes that have a one hour SDAT so that you can be confident when you drive your vehicle, it is COMPLETELY safe to do so.
